Melon sangria
MAKES 1 LARGE PITCHER
Heirloom melons are an exciting new group of fruit to us, and
we are starting to learn more about all the specialty varieties that are making
waves at farmer's markets. Unique types like Ambrosia, Canary, and Charentais
have a wide array of flavors, ranging from richly fruity to delicately floral.
Eating melons fresh is absolutely our first choice to bite into a thick, juicy
wedge of melon is to taste nature's candy at its best. But if we come across a
few extras, one always goes into a batch of fantastic melon sangria. The sweet
succulence of melons infused for a few hours with white wine proves to be an
outstanding beverage to share at gatherings. Summer just isn't the same
without pitchers of melon sangria. This is our summer party drink of choice
because we can prepare a few pitchers of it ahead of time and please a large
crowd. So if you can score two ripe heirloom melons, designate one for eating
and one for drinking. Celebrate summer!
